So far I have attended all courses at Argae Cottage except the Cattle for beginners course (that will change next year). All of the courses have been brilliant. There is a good mix between classroom style learning combined with being out on the farm with the animals. A handbook covering all aspects of each course are given out so you don't need to take notes and can fully concentrate on the information being discusses. Both Catriona and Jonathan are a wealth of information. The farm is well laid out and it's clear that the highest level of animal welfare is their priority, along with well managed mixed species rotational grazing. Everytime I have been there is always beautiful lush, long grass available for the animals. Students are always invited to have a wander around the farm during the lunch breaks and encouraged to ask questions. I always joke that I am going back just for the lunches as they are so delicious. Home raised meat and home grown veg is always on the menu and Jonathan is an excellent cook! There is usually some sort of homemade cordial, both Rubarb and Elderflower have been lovely. Catriona's sense of humour is always entertaining too. We are so happy with how the animals are being raised at Argae Cottage, we bought a ram lamb from them yesterday to join our little flock of Welsh Black Mountain Ewes so hopefully we'll have some cute little lambies next year. We have also bought a beef meat box and had numberous amounts of sausages and various other cuts of pork. All of it is by far the best we have ever tasted. We will definitely be buying more to keep us going until we are raising all of our own. I couldn't recommend Argae Cottage more highly if I tried, they are well worth a visit! More courses are needed so I can go back.

An excellent day on the sheep keepers course, we covered so much in just one day, the content of the course was so thorough and Catriona is so knowledgeable I came away feeling confident to get started, armed with a full set of course notes to refer back to if needed. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in keeping sheep. Lunch and refreshments were top class too. I will definitely be back to do another course when I can.

We recently went on the Introduction to Smallholdings and Pigs to Pork courses at Argae Cottage and if there were 10 stars that is what I would give! It was a fantastic, imformative and fun weekend. This course is ESSENTIAL for anyone starting their smallholding journey. Catriona presented the information in such a clear and understandable way with practical examples of each step from around the farm. I'd go on the course again just for the lunch! I can't imagine being able to start our smallholding journey without this course - book it now!
